Self-Compassion, Fertility, Yoga Teacher, Mindful
I am delighted and honored to share my background and experience with you. I am originally from the East Coast and I received my Masters degree in Clinical Social Work from Boston University. I came to California in 1998 and am licensed to practice in the state of California through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (#19714). Prior to starting my private practice, I worked for twelve years in corporate settings in the areas of Organizational Development and Employee Assistance Counseling. I opened my private practice in 2000.
My own long journey with infertility, coupled with my practice of yoga and meditation, led me to specialize in mindfulness-based practices and issues related to reproductive health such as infertility counseling. Since each client is unique, I use a variety of treatment approaches based on a client’s temperament and goals. My primary methodologies are: the psychodynamic process, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness based practices such as therapeutic yoga, guided imagery and breath work. My counseling style is interactive and empathic, with emphasis on self-compassion and self care.
I have completed post graduate training with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine on psychological interventions for fertility patients, ethical issues in assisted reproductive technology, reproductive cross cultural/cross border complexities and how to navigate intricate family planning choices. I am certified in the Mind/Body Program for Fertility from the Domar Center for Mind Body Health. I frequently train at the Esalen Institute on topics such as emotional intimacy for couples, effective parenting, positive psychology and yoga for stress reduction. I have studied Buddhist psychology and neuroscientific findings with Jack Kornfield, Ph.D. at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. I am a third degree Reiki practitioner and highly attuned to client emotional energy.
After practicing yoga for twenty-five years, I recently obtained my yoga teacher credential (RYT-200). In early 2016, I plan to offer yoga retreats for individuals and couples in the areas of infertility and emotional balance.
